Case Study – Create a free report from PLR in 45 minutes or less
Often I mention creating a freebie as a way to use PLR. Figure that it would be worthwhile to give an actual example of how you can do that. So without further ado lets get into a case study that I actually did today.
Before I start on that I like to give free things to my subscribers on Fridays. I don’t do it every week but I do it semi-regularly. So this morning when I woke up I realized that I did not package things up yesterday.
Now I knew that press releases is a great way to generate backlinks and traffic to my pages. Last week I picked up a PLR package on press releases from Alice Seba at DIYplr.com.
This package had 4 separate small reports that I could use. There is always a reason for creating these reports that I will give away.
For this report I decided that as press releases are a traffic generation topic my back end for this would be Marlon Sanders new The Traffic Dashboard. Free reports are great but they should always be an affiliate landmine that pre-sells something. I am a nice guy but I am also a marketer .
Now this does not mean you make it into just a sales letter in a different format. The 4 reports that I got in the package all had great content.
So what did I have to get done to put the report together and distribute it?
1. Created a Cover (4 minutes)
Went and created a quick cover for free (just click the try it free link at the top right) at My Ecover Maker with the title “Using Press Releases For More Traffic”. This is a great tool for creating quick covers for your free reports.
2. Created the PDF (15 minutes)
Opened up a new Word document and the 4 reports which I got as Word docs. Started by adding the cover into my document. Added my standard disclosure from a swipe file. Finally wrote a very brief introduction and added a recommendation to The Traffic Dashboard for more traffic help.
Then I copied and pasted the 4 documents into my master document.
Finally I added my author bio (which is in another swipe file) and a recommendation for The Traffic Dashboard. Converted the document into a PDF format and then uploaded it to my server so it could be downloaded.
3. Created a download page (5 minutes)
Finally created a download page that was specific to that report. Again I used a swipe template where I could pretty much copy and paste a few items into it to make it unique to this download. Then uploaded the page.
4. Sent out an email (10 minutes)
Again I have a standard Friday Freebie email so I edited it quickly and sent it out to my list to go download it.
So I spent $20 for the PLR and less than an hour of my time to create and distribute this free report. If it gets one sale of The Traffic Dashboard my commission will more than cover my costs.
Now if this is the first time you are creating something like this it will take you longer. When you do though, create the swipe files for your disclosure, your authors bio and the template for your download page and after a few times you will be doing it in less than an hour too.
Traffic is the key once you have completed your editing of your private label rights package and gotten it online. It does not matter if you created a list building system or a paid product your next step is to generate traffic to your system.
Now there are numerous ways to do that. The quickest is to pay for traffic whether it be PPC or banner advertising. The downside is that it can end up costing you more than you make. Now I will use this in a limited way to test out the process and get quick traffic but I prefer using some of the “free” traffic generation techniques.
Yes, I did put free in quotes for a reason. There is always time or outsourcing to pay for whether with cash or your sweat. The good part is that most of the “free” traffic will take a bit of time to start working but once they do will continue to work for you off of the initial effort.

The thing is the key to getting the most out of all of these ways is targeting the right keywords. Even with PPC finding the right keywords that people are searching for WHEN they are looking for a solution is the key.
After all the key is to attract people who are willing to pay and not in research mode.
There are a variety of free tools that you can use to do this but you will pay with your time. That is why I use Market Samurai for my keyword research. You can get a free trial and see if it is for you and go through the training they supply.
This will show you how to find keywords to target that will drive targeted buyers to your new site. This will save you a tremendous amount of either time or wasted money targeting the wrong keywords to generate traffic to your new product or squeeze page.
