3 Ways To Use PLR Articles

PLR (private label rights) articles can be used in many different ways. Here are three ways you can use PLR articles.

1. Create short report for list building – If you have 10 articles on a niche that you want to work in gather the articles. Open up Free Mind or what ever mind map you like to use and add the topics to your mind map

Sort them into a logical order (real easy to drag and drop them using Free Mind) and you have the outline for your report. Summarize each of the topics and you have a 7-10 page giveaway report to start building your list in that niche.

2. Blog content – Go through the articles and find the ones on the content you need for the keywords you are targeting. If they are close or easily changed to the keywords you are targeting that may be all you need to do to make them unique. Otherwise a quick rewrite and you can have one or two blog posts from each of the articles depending on how long they were to start.

3. Web 2.0 content – Sites like Squidoo, Hub Pages, et al can be an excellent way to generate links to your blog, squeeze page or sales page. A quick rewrite and these can add highly targeted content to these types of properties.

There are many more ways you can use them but apply one of these 3 today. Action is always the key. So if you have PLR articles collecting digital dust on your hard drive it is time to pull them out, dust them off and put them to use. I do.

Keywords and PLR

One of the most common types of PLR (private label rights) that you will find is article packs. These can be a great way to get a variety of content for new or existing web sites. You have probably seen the various monthly memberships where you get a variety of articles on different topics, You need to do the keyword research first though.

One I use is Expert Content Monthly. I get 12 topics with 25 articles on each topic. This makes great content for niche blogs but…

Not all of the topics are equally valuable.

Now when I decide to do a topic there are some expenses in both time and money so it is not likely that I will do all twelve. After all I need to get an appropriate domain, install a new blog (although that has gotten easier with Expert WordPress), I need to redo the articles a bit to make them unique to me and then I need to start a linking strategy.

This can be a valuable start if you find which topics are most likely to be profitable and which topics with in that niche have sufficient traffic but not much competition. Looking at this month’s topics in the first 3 I checked I found one where the ad words cost per click was three times the others.

If advertisers are paying more you can make more on Adsense and the odds are really good that there are products available to promote as an affiliate. Now as long as there are keyword phrases that get sufficient traffic and are buying phrases this is worth the time and effort.

After all it will cost you $8 for a domain, hosting costs, either your time or money to get the articles targeted properly and start a linking strategy. You need to have a reasonable expectation of making a profit to spend the time or money. Picking the right topic is the key but it takes a bit of keyword research.

These types of packages tend to be generic but if you have created a good keyword list you can adapt the articles for the specific keywords that you have found that are golden. (You know the ones with good traffic, low competition and costly ad words clicks.)

For example I just created a site on Colon Cleansing. In doing the research I was able to find 12 different phrases that could be targeted from the articles that have very little competition, competitive pricing on ad words and good traffic volume.

I can use these terms to make the articles unique to me and have keyword phrases that are easy to rank for at the same time.

Keyword research is the key to doing this. Steve Roye and I did a one hour call on exactly how to do this with free tools and you can grab the transcript, recording, checklists and workbook at Keyword Research Call.

If you are not doing the research and tweaking the content you end up wasting your time, effort and money.

Keyword Research The First Step

One of the big secrets to using PLR (private label rights) products is to do your keyword research first. After all if the topic does not have people interested in buying information or you can’t get traffic realtively easily you probably won’t do well there no matter how good the PLR is and how well you make it your own.

One of the good things with doing the research first is you often can find a way to use the PLR to what I would call “nichify it”.

For example you have a report on lead generation. It is a very broad topic but you could personalize the report to

  • Disabilty Lawyers
  • Car Dealers
  • Insurance Agents
  • Real Estate Agents

just to name a few groups that would be interested in better lead generation. Actually any sales business would be interested in such a product.

The key is which group would be most likely to buy and spend money on that type of product? Which group can you compete easily in?

Doing good keyword research will allow you to find out which of these areas would be most likely to succeed. Now you have a place to start and once that is successful you can reframe the product for the next best niche on that topic.

Now I have not done the research but if you did this and focused on Disabilty Lawyers, tweaked the product to specifically address them and ranked in the serps for terms they would be searching for you should do well.

If during your reseach you found that Insurance Agents was close to being as easy you could now redo the product specifically for them once you have the first one going.

This is why doing some keyword research can pay off many times over if you do it first. Other wise (and again I did not research this) you might try to point your product to Real Estate Agents and find that you have way too much competition or worse no one is buying things in that area.

To find out more on doing keyword research check out the call Steve Roye and I did where we walk you through exactly how to..

  • Why do you need to find the right niche first?
  • Where can I find those truly golden nugget keywords for my niche? Get this right and you may need to increase your bandwidth.
  • How will I recognize them when I do?
  • Why traffic stats are not the biggest concern when doing keyword research? Wasting time, effort and money on non converting keywords is not only frustrating it can be wasteful.
  • How much competition is too much? This will let you know in advance exactly how hard you will need to work to get the results you wish.
  • How you can tell how good your competition is?
  • What is OCI and why should I care?
  • What is a keyword tree and why is it important?
