Private Label Rights – Tools you need
PLR or private label rights can be an excellent way to grow your business but you did need a few things to leverage them properly.
First and foremost you need some type of web presence. This means you need to have a web site that you control. You will need to get a hosting account and buy a domain. I use Go Daddy for domains and recommend The Marketers Hosting for your sites because you can add multiple domains, you get an autoresponder, tracking and an affiliate program all for $20 a month. Now you won’t need anything but the hosting to start but you will need the rest once you start growing your business.
Next you will need to be able to edit and work with word documents and convert them to pdf format. The easiest way when you are starting is to use Open Office which is open source and has a price that I like – free. This will allow you to edit the documents you get and put them into a format to easily deliver on line. Now as you grow you may want to invest in more robust software such as Microsoft Word and Adobe but to start there is no reason to invest initially.
You will need an image software and Gimp cam get you started and like Open Office it is open source and free. Now eventually you will want to upgrade to Photoshop but Gimp will work to get you started. If you have a few dollars to invest I do recommend Marlon Sander’s Design Dashboard as it will help you to understand designing graphics through step by step tutorials along with how to edit and create web pages.
Speaking of web pages that is the next item you will need and HTML editor. Now there are a wide variety of options here. If you are good with HTML all you really need is notepad to edit your pages. Now for most it is better to use an editor. Dreamweaver is probably the best known but is pricey and the learning curve can be steep. To get started the Free Website Builder will get you started and make it easier for you.
Finally you will need an FTP program. FTP is file transfer protocol and allows you to move files from your computer to your web host. There are literally hundreds of different FTP programs available but Filezilla is open source, free and there are lots of tutorials available on how to use it.
This list will get you started on the tools and do not forget two others that you will use a lot when you get stuck. Google and You Tube. When you have a question try these two sources to get answers.
After all the important thing is to actually complete things even if they aren’t perfect. You will improve them as you go.

Really nice summary of tools. And you can save a lot of money. I used Office 2003 for a long time. Lost it, tried 2007 and start liking open office now (same i/f as 2003, maybe I’m too old to change what worked so long well for me).
